About the Porsche Boxster:
The
Porsche boxster (986), whose name refers to the 'boxer' engine and the
'roadster' class, was introduced in 1996, succeeding the Porsche 968.
The Boxster is a two door, two seat convertible roadster, while all of
the prior Porsche convertibles were built as hardtop coupes. The first
Boxsters were powered by 2.5 liter flat 6 cylinder engines. In 2000,
the original model was upgraded to a 2.7 liter engine and the Boxer S
variant was equipped with a 3.2 liter motor. Aesthetically, the
original boxster was modeled after the Porsche Spyder and Speedster.
The
987 Porsche boxster was introduced in 2005 and was created in a very
similar style to the 986, with the exception of the headlights which
were modified from the 'fried egg' look to those of the Carrera GT. For
the first time in a boxster model, the wheel arches were enlarged to
allow up to a 19 inch diameter wheel. The interior featured a circular
theme in the cooling vents and instrument cluster areas.
All
986 and 987 Boxsters carry M96 water cooled, flat 6 cylinder engines.
The mid-engine layout and M96 offer a low center of gravity, smooth
ride, ideal weight distribution and good handling.
