    Our engine rebuilds are thorough and extensive.

     

    The Rebuild Process

    The engine is stripped to bare components and put into a high pressure wash at high temperature with cleansing chemicals, this removes all carbon deposits and debris from previous failures. From this stage the Cylinder bores and pistons are checked for cracks and wear tolerances. If your returned engine core requires cylinder re-sleeving this will be completed at an extra cost.
     

    Pistons are checked and Rings are then changed, Connecting Rods and Crankshaft are checked for tolerance specs.
     

    Upgraded Main & Rod Bearings. Available only at Vertex Automotive

    Upgraded Main & Rod Bearings by EPS

    The Rod and Main bearings are replaced with EPS bearing shells that are 15% wider than stock, for a stronger and more durable bottom end. The main bearing shell at the flywheel side is replaced with the EPS Wider Double Friction shell for stronger crank support. This is an industry first and is only available at Vertex Automotive 

    The Oil Pump is reconditioned and scavenger pumps checked and replaced if necessary.
     

    We then address the infamous IMS and permanently correct it using the revolutionary ETERNAL FIX by EPS

    Porsche IMS Eternal Fix

    The IMS is machined for larger cylindrical roller bearing, (ETERNAL FIX).
    The IMS is then modified for front oil pressure feed to the IMS bearing (Patent Pending)

    Why do we use the ETERNAL FIX with Cylindrical Bearings with Thrust Control?

    Cylindrical Bearings have very high load bearing capacity, 5 times more than Ball Bearing. Cylindrical Bearings are used in, High Temp & Low Viscosity Lubrication such as Automatic Transmissions. They can carry extreme lateral pressure without wear to the friction surfaces. This is because the bearing friction surface is flat and not concave.

    Cylinder Head Rebuild Process

     

    Porsche 996 3.4L Rebuilt Cylinder Head

     

    Ea ch cylinder head core is disassembled and inspected for broken bolts, stripped thread holes and broken mounting holes, etc.  All heads go through a three-step cleaning process which includes: 

    1) Passing through a high temperature oven. 
    2) Professionally bead blasted. 
    3) Placement in a non-caustic hot tank. 

    The Head is then inspected for cracks & pressure tested. Cam bores are checked for spec and honed if needed.  

    The machining process includes; 

    ?          Inspect valve guide bores using a dial bore gauge and repair where needed.

    ?          New OEM German Phosphorous Bronze Valve Guides & Valve Stem Seals are installed

    ?          All valve seats are cut, not ground, using three angle cuts for maximum precision.

    ?          The valves are inspected for stem and valve face damage and/or wear, as well as straightness. 

    ?          All valves are hand ground and/or replaced as needed.

    ?          Thoroughly inspect and test all of the valve springs for proper tension / resistance and replaced as needed.

    ?          All head surfaces are machined (milled), not ground!



    Final cleaning and assembly includes;  Cleaning all heads in a solvent base tank in which all oil galleries, thread holes, etc. are cleaned.  A number of different brushes are used to catch any remaining contaminants.  All heads are run through a detergent based hot tank before assembly. All assembly work is done by hand by Professional and Expert Porsche Specialists.

    Engine Break in hints for the first 2,000 miles (3,000 kilometers)

    The following tips will be helpful in obtaining optimum performance from your rebuilt Porsche engine.

    Despite the most modern, high-precision manufacturing methods, the moving parts must still wear in with each other. This wearing-in occurs mainly in the first 2,000 miles (3,000 km).

    Therefore:

    • Preferably take longer trips.

     

    • Avoid frequent cold starts with short-distance driving whenever possible.

     

    • Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops.

     

    • Do not exceed maximum engine speed of 4,200 rpm (revolutions per minute).

     

    • Do not run a cold engine at high rpm either in Neutral or in gear.

     

    • Do not let the engine labor, especially when driving uphill. Shift to the next lower gear in time (use the most favorable rpm range).

     

    • Never lug the engine in high gear at low speeds. This rule applies at all times, not just during the break-in period.

     

    • Do not participate in motor racing events, sports driving schools, etc. during the first 2,000 miles (3,000 kilometers).

     

    • Perform the first oil change at 500 miles (800 kilometers), after that we recommend to perform oil changes every 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometers)

     

    • We recommend using 10w40 synthetic oil on all water cooled engines and 20w50 oil on all air cooled engines.
