The Porsche 944 was in production from 1982 until 1991. During this period, the company produced 163,192 Porsche 944s. The popular sports car was offered both as a coupe and cabriolet in turbocharged and normally aspirated models. The 944 made Car and Driver’s Ten Best list from 1983-1985, while the Porsche 944 Turbo made the list in 1986. In 1985, the Porsche 944 went through some substantial changes. The original 944 wheels were upgraded to phone dial wheels, the alternator went from a 90 amp to a 115 amp, and there were improvements to the mounting of the transaxle to reduce vibration and noise. Other modifications to the Porsche 944 parts included a new dash, new door panels, an increased oil sump capacity, rear and front cast alloy control arms, a larger fuel tank and options for heated and powered seats. The Porsche 944 models that were produced in 1985, with the upgrades, are often referred to as 1985 1/2 cars or 1985B versions.
