What is HID?
HID stands for High Intensity Discharge
Lamp. The HID Lamp is a system that produces light by putting xenon gas and
metal halide salts into the light emitting tube installed inside the HID
Lamp.
The electrons
inside the light emitting tube collide with the metal atoms, using 20,000
volts generated from the control system (ballast) to produce tremendous
amounts of light at much lower energy consumptions
What are the advantages of HID?
Compared with your existing halogen
lamp, which emits light through a heated filament, the HID Lamp has no
filament. This means there is no filament to burn out, hence MUCH longer
service life. Additional advantages of the HID Lighting Systems are 50%
reduction in power consumption, 3 times the luminosity of conventional
lamps, and a 5 times increase in life span over existing halogen lamps.
Since the HID system consumes only 35W of power, it contributes to low fuel
consumption and greater efficiency.

What Kelvin (K) Rating should I choose?
Contrary to popular belief, the higher
the Kelvin rating does not mean the brighter the light. The Kelvin rating
will determine the Color Hue of the light that the bulb emits. So basically
the amount of Kelvin you choose will be based on your personal
preference . Please use this chart to determine what system is best for you.

The 3 Main Components of the HID System
BULB : - The Xenon Gas and
mercury Metal Halide Salts existing inside the light emitting tube causes
the molybdenum electrodes on both sides to plasma discharge and create
energy, which in turn produces light. In laymen terms…These suckers are
Bright!
IGNITER : - This is an electronic
amplifier that receives electric current from the ballast and boosts voltage
to ignite the Arc Light Source in all environments. It initializes plasma
discharge within the source by delivering a high-volt pulse to the
electrodes.
BALLAST : - This is an
electronic control unit used to initialize arc and supply a stabilized power
supply to the bulb and igniter during normal arc conditions.

What Type Bulb Does my car use?
We carry a wide variety of bulb styles
to fit most Porsche cars. Some earlier model cars have Sealed Beams which
will need to be upgraded in order to use these HID Kits. If your car has the
sealed beams, or you don’t know how to tell, please contact us for an
inexpensive upgrade.
