The Porsche Boxster is Porsche’s top selling roadster, and one of their best-selling cars. The modern Boxster was first built in Stuttgart, Germany in 1996, and its chosen name is a combination of roadster, the type of car it is, and its “boxer”, or horizontally opposed engine. It’s first generation type 986 lasted from 1996-2004, then Porsche proceeded to the type 987. Currently the Porsche Boxster is in its third generation-the type 981 which was first assembled in 2012, and comes in two versions, the standard version and the Boxster S which first appeared during the first generation in 2000. The standard Boxster has a 2.7 L 6-cylinder engine, while the S has a 3.4 L engine also with 6 cylinders, and top speeds of 164 and 173 MPH respectively. Both of these cars have a 6-speed manual gearbox, as well as an optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission, replacing the 5-speed automatic that was optional in previous generations. Options for the Boxster include the sport chrono package that can make the dual clutch version reach a higher top speed.
